Thank you for visiting my site and having an interest in encouraging hope.
I was born and raised in the Kansas City area. I grew up in a small suburb where I was the preacher’s kid. It was great most of the time because I got a lot of attention. However, when I was a teen it just meant more spies. My dad was the pastor of a growing Baptist church until my high school years. He did not leave because I was a rebel or anything like that; he became a Christian counselor. I was blessed to have godly parents who practiced what they taught. They also taught me that I could be anything I wanted to be. I was not sure what that was at that time. Sometimes I pretended that I was a preacher so I could be the boss.
After high school I attended Central Missouri State University to work toward my nursing degree. It was during my college years that I became interested in religious studies. I took a world religion class and studied many religions on my own. I had been taught Christian religion my whole life, and I wanted to verify my beliefs on my own. Everything I learned only strengthened my faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior.
My senior year in college, I married my high school sweetheart, Josh. I worked as a nurse’s aid in a hospital in many different areas while in college, and I enjoyed caring for people. I never once thought about being a writer. I graduated with my bachelor’s in nursing. I then started working in dialysis because I was interested in chronic care.
After Josh and I were married a few years, we were excited to start a family. This was a great trial in our lives. We lived through infertility and sadness. We wanted so badly to become parents as we watched everyone around us raising children. After many tears and hopeful prayers, we finally became parents through the blessing of adoption. We grew closer to God and each other during these trials. Through the grace of God, we now have two adorable and healthy kids. A son and daughter—the family we always wanted! We moved back to our home town, and we are thrilled to be near all of our family and friends. We are close to our family and love spending time with all of them.
Josh and I have now been married 20 wonderful years. Josh has his doctorate in pharmacy and has been the manager of his pharmacy for several years (yes, I am very proud of him). I worked in dialysis and with chronic kidney disease patients for over 18 years. I enjoyed my role as a nurse educator and kidney care advocate.
I decided after my 18 years in the medical field, that I want to focus more on wellness by looking at the whole person. I completed my education in life coaching with a field of service in health and wellness. I will focus on each person to help them find the best balance within their physical, emotional, and spiritual lives. Biofeedback therapy, which promotes wellness, has impacted my life personally and professionally. The area of biofeedback can help people with multiple physical and emotional issues. I enjoy my current role as an RN biofeedback clinician because our bodies are amazing!
During some of life’s trials, I enjoyed journaling. After we received our daughter Grace’s miracle, I was thankful that I had a detailed journal. I found myself typing out Grace’s story for some people who requested to read my journal. I was so excited about writing this story that I would often find myself typing all the way through the night (that is the only quiet time in my home). I ended up with a book! I now have a passion for writing for the purpose of encouraging and bringing hope to others.
In 2013, we added 3 girls (sisters) to our family. We were able to parent and care for them for several years. They are still a huge part of our lives and family. We are now a blended and unique family.
I treasure most of all being a mother and a wife, and even all of the trials that come along with those jobs--Calgon take me away! One of my favorite ways to spend time is to travel and have fun with my family. I love being with them away from everyday chaos, and I feel refreshed when we get to see the oceans, mountains, and other wonders of God’s creation. These are the excuses, although true, that I use to get my husband to take us places. I can sit for hours on a soft, warm sandy beach looking into the vastness of the multi-colored ocean waters and the endless blue skies and know there is an amazing Creator hovering over little me. God has opened the door for me to use my creative abilities with writing and speaking, and I am ready to share that with others in efforts to refresh and encourage them.
